Repair scenario

A classroom iPad charges but its screen is damaged

A school-owned iPad has a damaged display while remaining enrolled in device management. Record the asset details and damage, agree who can approve the repair, and keep management credentials with authorised school staff. A screen repair should not be treated as permission to erase the device.

Illustrative repair scenario, not a recorded TECHHELP customer job. The actual fault and repair options require assessment.

FAQs

School IT support questions

Practical answers for the support needs described on this page.

Several classroom devices stopped connecting after a Wi-Fi change. Must they all be repaired?

A shared timing pattern points to a network or configuration check before separate hardware repairs. Record the affected rooms, device types and whether any devices still connect. The school’s authorised IT contact should confirm recent network changes and access arrangements.

Can a pupil’s tablet be booked in without removing its school management profile?

The school must confirm the authorised repair and testing arrangements. Management restrictions may affect setup or testing, but removing the profile is not an automatic repair step. Refer account, ownership and management changes to the school administrator.

A classroom laptop asks for a recovery key after a fault. Who supplies it?

The school’s authorised administrator may hold the BitLocker recovery key for a managed Windows device. Keep the key secure and establish access before storage changes or reinstalling Windows. A repair does not bypass encryption.

How should a school describe a batch of damaged laptops for an estimate?

Provide an asset list with model, asset reference and individual symptoms, without pupil data. Separate broken displays, charging faults and software issues instead of assuming one repair price for every unit. Confirm approval responsibility and data-handling requirements before work begins.
